Can you help this mum? Night Time Nappies help!

Night Time Nappies help!

Can you help this mum?

I am hoping one of your doulas can help me. My son is 16 months old (little fella though) and at night time is wetting heaps.

I am changing him 3x a night due to him being soaked. I use well known night nappies which are boosted on top of what they sell/suggest them as.

What do others do?

I am already boosting extra and extra… and doesn’t seem to help: it only makes him not be able to roll over!
I would really like for him to sleep thru the night but since he is so wet I dont think it will happen.

Hoping someone can suggest something to help or some type of wonder nappy…

– a baffled Mum

PS It’s not like disposables are any better, it is worse having gel balls everywhere during the night too…

  1. I use Bambooties which are great and I have a heavy wetter too! Have you tried going up a size? Maybe they are too small!

  2. Firstly I’d ask exactly what the reason is for the night changes, is the nappy actually leaking and wetting his clothes and bedding? If not you kind of have to expect night nappies to end up pretty wet, they are on for a long time after all.

Otherwise I would maybe do a strip wash to make sure your night nappies are as absorbent as possible, and after that just wait and see if it’s a stage your son is going through. Even the best night nappy is going to be sopping if your son is just a heavy wetter.

My son went though a stage of wetting very heavily at night but over time this has dropped off and we have no leaks overnight any more 🙂

  3. It sounds like you are doing pretty much all you can with the nappy, and you have a good nappy with bamboo being the trimmest fabric for absorbency – so I don’t see much to do with the nappy except boost it more or keep on changing it!

The only thing I can think is to try limiting his fluids before bed. If you are still night-feeding then night-changing is pretty much a given, but if not maybe move the last feed/bottle earlier and try to make sure he doesn’t have any fluids after dinner. Although I was reluctant at first this made a real difference with my boys.
    Good luck!

  4. Hi
Have you tried heavy wetter Sandman nappies from Sustainable Hemp Products? My bub was the same and I found those nappies are the only ones that won’t leak during the night. Have you tried putting a lanolised wool soaker over his nappy also? That way if he does leak, it won’t affect his clothes and bedsheets. The lanolised soaker acts as a waterproof guard.

Hope I have been able to help.
