Let’s see what they have to say about our mcn question:
One of the key things when using inserts or boosters, is to mix and match the types of fabrics that the pads are made from. That way you can take advantage of the different properties that they have. Some pads, such as those made of microfibre absorb liquid quickly, but will also release it if squashed, in the same way a sponge does. Others, such as hemp, holds large amounts of liquid, and holds onto it well, but is much slower to absorb the water. Combining qualities such as these, you can have the best of both worlds.
If you need to use extra boosting it is very easy to add extra layers to a nappy. Just check to see if you still have a great fit around the legs to ensure no leaks. If your nappy is leaking and all the boosters are saturated inside your nappy, you can usually just add extra boosters. If you are getting leaks and the nappy is not soaking inside, then you do not have a good fit around the legs or the inserts are not absorbing quickly enough for your baby. Try using a microfiber insert closest to the baby’s bottom, making sure there is a microfleece layer between the skin and insert. Microfibre is a very fast absorbing fabric, where bamboo will hold more liquid.
Inserts and boosters allow you to adjust where the most absorbent part of the nappy is, and can be tailored to fit your baby perfectly. In the case of a tummy sleeper, you would fold or add boosters to the front of the nappy as this is where most of the moisture will go.
Make sure that boosters and inserts are not hanging out of the cover or nappy shell if they are this may cause leaks. Extra boosters are needed for night time and for bubs that are heavier wetters. Before purchasing your nappies ask your retailer which nappies they feel would suit your bub. Many retailers (such as ours) will allow you to see them in person and ‘try’ some nappies out to see if they fit.
