Let’s see what they have to say about our mcn question:

Reusable Nappies: How To Use Inserts And Boosters To Prevent Leaks And Extend The Absorption Of Your Baby’s Nappy.

Kelly from Nappy Needz:

One of the key things when using inserts or boosters, is to mix and match the types of fabrics that the pads are made from.  That way you can take advantage of the different properties that they have.  Some pads, such as those made of microfibre absorb liquid quickly, but will also release it if squashed, in the same way a sponge does.  Others, such as hemp, holds large amounts of liquid, and holds onto it well, but is much slower to absorb the water.  Combining qualities such as these, you can have the best of both worlds.

Karen from Baby Blossom:

If you need to use extra boosting it is very easy to add extra layers to a nappy. Just check to see if you still have a great fit around the legs to ensure no leaks. If your nappy is leaking and all the boosters are saturated inside your nappy, you can usually just add extra boosters. If you are getting leaks and the nappy is not soaking inside, then you do not have a good fit around the legs or the inserts are not absorbing quickly enough for your baby. Try using a microfiber insert closest to the baby’s bottom, making sure there is a microfleece layer between the skin and insert. Microfibre is a very fast absorbing fabric, where bamboo will hold more liquid.

Melanie & Diana of Bodeo:

Inserts and boosters allow you to adjust where the most absorbent part of the nappy is, and can be tailored to fit your baby perfectly. In the case of a tummy sleeper, you would fold or add boosters to the front of the nappy as this is where most of the moisture will go.

Misty from FluffyBuns:

Make sure that boosters and inserts are not hanging out of the cover or nappy shell if they are this may cause leaks. Extra boosters are needed for night time and for bubs that are heavier wetters. Before purchasing your nappies ask your retailer which nappies they feel would suit your bub. Many retailers (such as ours) will allow you to see them in person and ‘try’ some nappies out to see if they fit.

Top Cloth Nappy Tips: Modern Cloth Nappy Boosters and Inserts: What You Should Know…

What is an Insert? What is a Booster? Is There a Difference Anyway?

Let’s Find Out What Our Nappy Experts Have to Say About Our Topic:  Top Tips For Modern Cloth Nappy Boosters and inserts: What you should know…

Emma from Wrap ‘Em (closed) recommends:

If using BBH Petites, buying additional inserts will extend your stash somewhat. The night boosters are great for boosting up bamboo fitteds or MagicAlls for night time use or use as extra inserts for Multifits. They can also be used as prefolds on small newborns or even as great cloths for soaking up spills or putting under the sheet of a toilet training toddler 🙂

Kendall from Australian Baby Supplies recommends:

Inserts and Boosters for pocket nappies can often be exchanged between brands. If necessary choose an insert that is more suitable for your environment i.e. if you live in a cold climate and drying is a concern choose a faster drying material like microfibre or a trifold rather than a multilayered bamboo booster/insert.

Melissa from Little Para Pants recommends:

I guess for me it comes down to fabrics. What do you want next to your baby’s skin? How long do you expect the nappy to be on? For something like a night nappy, bamboo is the most absorbent and very soft. If you’re looking for something that dries quicker, hemp is still very absorbent but quicker to dry than bamboo.

Charndra from Part Time Nappy Free recommends:

I am not an expert on these – which is why this question is here, and woo hoo I’m learning new stuff!

Nyree from Kodomo recommends:

Be careful of over-boosting pocket nappies, too much and you will cause a leg gape and possibly have some leaks. When you boost fitted nappies, place the booster on the outside of the nappy – you’ll get the extra absorbency without compromising fit around the legs.
